Evans wins Aledo Spelling Bee

Baylee Evans won the Aledo CUSD #201 Spelling Bee on Wednesday, Jan. 28 2009.  Evans is a sixth grader at Aledo Junior High. Jordan Sheese (eighth) finished in second while Rachel Hawk (eighth) came in third. Awards of $100, $75, and $50 U.S. Savings Bonds are awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers respectively.

Finishing out the top six spellers were Austin Deborn (sixth), Quintin Russell (eighth) and Lucas Hamann (seventh).

The top six spellers qualify for the Mercer County Spelling Bee to be held on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, 6:30 p.m. at Aledo Jr. High School in the music room. Baylee and Jordan automatically qualify for the Argus/Dispatch Championship Bee to be held on Tuesday, March 17, 6:30 p.m. at Augustana College Centennial Hall. 

Other contestants competing admirably in the spelling bee were Jacki Olson (sixth), Dalton Lower (eighth), Cheyene Terry (fifth), Ashton Klingaman (fifth), Brian Wagner (eighth), Ty Taylor (fifth), Austin Lindell (fifth), Adam Lloyd (seventh), Brad Garrett (fifth), Kate Baugher (seventh), Jenna Speer (fifth), Drake Stirn (sixth), Sydney Magedanz (eighth), and Austin Jackson (sixth).
