James Wooten, PE teacher at Winola, receives another pie in the face, thanks to Cameron Brandon during the Jump Rope for Heart ceremony held Friday, April 17.

Winola Elementary in Viola has once again had a tremendous year with respect to its Jump Rope For Heart program. The students raised more than $9,600 for the American Heart Association this year. Winola has now raised more than $40,000 in total over the last four years.

The community really comes together for this great cause. There are a number of businesses and teachers that have donated additional prizes for the school's assembly. The students put forth so much effort, not only getting donations, but also by making pictures and posters for the gym wall. Their dedication and the hard work and help from their parents is tremendous.

This year, Mrs. Burns' first grade class led the way with nearly $1,600 raised. Laila Haley led the way among students with nearly $1,200 raised.  The school concluded the program with an all school assembly on April 17. This is always a fun event for students. Some teachers and community members get hit with cream pies and up to 30 additional prizes were raffled off among the students in the school.

Garrick Utley, kindergartner at Winola, won a Slip & Slide at the Jump Rope for Heart assembly.
