Please help us show support for Mercer County High School student Holly DeSpain. DeSpain was involved in a serious auto accident on Aug. 7 and she needs help. With brain trauma, internal contusions, and lots of therapy on the horizon, she can use all the help the public can give.

Her friends and family are organizing several fundraising events to help DeSpain and her family with expenses.

T-shirts and other items will be sold during several racing events in the area as DeSpain was once, and hopefully will be in the future, the driver of a 600 mini sprint car.

Races scheduled for Sept. 19 at the Quad City Speedway, and Sept. 25 at the Macomb Speedway and Mercer County Fairgrounds Raceway will display T-shirts with the insignia "Hearts for Holly." The shirts will be $10 each with the profits going directly to Holly.

There will also be a benefit for Holly on Oct. 2 at the town hall in Keithsburg.  This event will run from 1 p.m. through 10 p.m. There will be kids games, music, auction items, entertainment, food, and items for sale. Please join us for a great cause. If you'd like to donate items for the auction please give one of the sponsors a call. Please contact: Alex Weskunas, 236-5728; Shellyne Hill, 371-7019 or Melanie Adams, 738-9803.

If you have any questions or would like to donate. A Holly DeSpain benefit fund has been set up at the Country Bank in Aledo and the Black Hawk State Bank if you would like to contribute to the cause.
