The Carl Sandburg College Board of Trustees approved the employment of Andy Scott of Galesburg as the coordinator of academic support services during the regular monthly meeting held in April. Scott’s primary function will be to provide, arrange or coordinate accommodations for course work, programs, services activities and facilities for disabled and disadvantaged students. He will also coordinate college tutoring and the operation of the Math/Writing lab. He began working at the College on May 1.

“I think one of the things that will ensure the success of the writing center the most is increasing communication between me, the writing center and the faculty,” said Scott. “I’m hoping to get some tutor-lead workshops and gather input from the faculty in what they would like to see us do. I’d also like to promote the services of the Math/Writing lab and help the faculty and students to be more aware of what we do.”

Scott earned an Associate of Arts from Carl Sandburg College in 2002, a Bachelor of Arts in History from Augustana College in 2004, and a Master of Arts in English Composition from Western Illinois University in 2008. He taught English as a foreign language at Southwestern University of Science and Technology in Mianyang, China, where he also served as director of the Reading Room. Scott has also taught at Arapahoe Community College, Littleton, Colo.; Western Illinois University, and Central China Normal University in Wuhan, China.
