On Tuesday, May 24 the Rockridge Community Unit #300 School board unanimously approved the hiring of Mr. Toby Whiteman as the new head boys' varsity basketball coach at Rockridge High School and new junior high PE instructor. Mr. Whiteman is currently employed by the Abingdon School District as a drivers' education and PE instructor; he also served as their athletic director from 2001-2010. In addition to his teaching responsibilities at Abingdon, he also served as an assistant varsity football coach.

Mr. Whiteman's basketball background is expansive, as he was a standout basketball player at Knoxville High School and Monmouth College. He has also been the head boys' basketball coach at Atwood-Hammond High School and the former Northwestern High School (currently West Prairie High School). In addition to his playing and head coaching experiences, Coach Whiteman is also the co-director of the American Youth Basketball Tour, which tours throughout the Midwest during the summer.

Mr. Whiteman replaces Mr. Jeff Henry, who resigned the position in March after serving as Rockridge's head boys' basketball coach since 2001.
