CSC Community Education Classes for June

Carl Sandburg College Community Education classes are offered as a service to area citizens at minimal cost. Some classes are developed for specific interest groups or age brackets.  These courses are scheduled at various locations throughout the district and cover a wide range of topics. You may register for most of these classes by phone at (309) 345-3501 or in person at the Galesburg campus. Continuing Fitness 1

The CSC Fitness Center offers a relaxing atmosphere with a strong educational foundation. If you are a newcomer to exercise, or a seasoned novice, you will appreciate the one-on-one service offered. All new members receive a free personal fitness assessment and equipment orientation session. Members also have access to some free group fitness classes offered throughout the semester. The facility includes a walking track, a free weight area, new cardiovascular and strength training equipment and a group exercise studio. The fitness equipment includes treadmills, ellipticals, recumbent bicycles, a rower, selection of new strength training equipment, Smith Machine and Nautilus free weights. The cardiovascular equipment is equipped with Cardio Theater so you may watch and listen to the television. Fitness Center hours during summer semester are: Monday-Thursday 6 a.m.-7 p.m., Friday 6 a.m.-2 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Class will be during Fitness Center hours, beginning June 6 for eight weeks.

Zumba Basics

Zumba is an exciting new brand of fitness: A high-energy program with motivation music and dance moves from Salsa, Merengue, and other Latin steps and free-form styles. It integrates some of the basic principles of aerobic, resistance, and interval training to tone and sculpt your body, burn fat, maximize caloric output, and benefit your heart and mind. Students need to wear low tread shoes or dance shoes. Class will be on Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning June 6 for eight weeks from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Yoga is a great way to increase flexibility, reduce stress, increase body awareness and restore a healthy, positive mind/body balance. This class is designed to improve your flexibility, balance, and strength. Floor mats are provided, or you are welcome to bring your own. Class will be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, beginning June 6 for eight weeks from 7-8 a.m. You may also choose the one or two day a week options.

Mat Pilates

Mat Pilates is a gentle and effective full-body workout. The emphasis is on the body core consisting of the abs, back and glutes. With consistency, the outcome is better posture, stronger and more flexible muscles, greater energy and an increased ability to cope with daily stress. Minimum of 5 students. Class will be on Tuesdays, beginning June 7 for eight weeks from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
