Sherrard Hall of Fame Recipients to be Honored
The Sherrard Academic Foundation announced honorees today for the Sherrard/Winola Alumni Hall of Fame. Recipients will be honored during the 4th annual Hall of Fame Event on Saturday, November 5 at the Rock Reception Hall in Coal Valley.
Honorees must have been a student or staff member within the Sherrard or Winola school districts. They are nominated by members of the community and selected based on demonstrated, outstanding contributions to their profession and/or significant contributions to their community. The 2011 Honorees include:
Bill Loomis, Sherrard (1955): Mr. Loomis received a BS in Physics and Mathematics from WIU and an MS in Nuclear Physics from the University of Kentucky. He went on to have a distinguished career in nuclear energy including several years as a Nuclear Analyst on the Nuclear Rocket program for NASA during the Mars landing, for the Missile Defense Agency, the US Army Ballistic Missile Defense Command where he earned the Commanders Award for Technical and Management Achievement. He went on to serve in several consultant roles including serving as the VP of Defensive Missile Systems for the Lockhead Martin Corporation and chaired many international missile conferences.
Jackie (Bell) Zachmeyer, Sherrard (1985): Jackie holds a BA degree in accounting from Monmouth College and is a Certified Public Accountant. After graduation, she worked for three years in public accounting before joining Deere & Company as an Internal Auditor in 1993. Since then, Jackie has held assignments of increasing responsibility at the Harvester Works, the Waterloo Foundry, Construction & Forestry Financial Analysis, the Davenport Works, International Finance in the Corporate Treasury Department, and the Waterloo Tractor Works. From 2003 until 2006, she served as Controller, Welland Works. In 2006, Jackie moved to Mannheim, Germany, and served as Director, Finance and Accounting Agricultural Division – Europe, Africa and Middle East. In 2008 Jackie was appointed as Director, Finance, Ag & Turf Division, Europe, Africa, South America, and Global Harvesting Sourcing and in August 2011 was appointed to serve as the Finance Director for the Construction and Forestry Division – a position she currently holds.
Robert F. Baldwin, Sherrard (1989): Robert, a major with the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division from Fort Campbell, KY was killed in a helicopter crash in southern Afghanistan in September 2010. Robert graduated Cum Laude from WIU in 1993 with a BA in industrial technology and a minor in military science. He was a member of the Western’s Reserve Officers Training Corps and was commissioned a second lieutenant in December 1993. He entered the US Army in February 1994. While in service, he was awarded the Bronze Medal Star, the Meritorious Service and 17 other military honors.
Greg Shaffer – Distinguished Staff Award – Mr. Shaffer was a longtime teacher, coach and advisor. He was nominated for his leadership style in the classroom, his leadership style as a coach, his class and the fun he brought to his role with students.
Induction Ceremony and Event:
The Hall of Fame honorees will be recognized during a special event on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 5:30 p.m at the Rock Reception Hall in Coal Valley. The event, “There’s Magic in Education” will feature silent and live auction items, dinner and a special ceremony to recognize the 2011Hall of Fame honorees.
