St. Ambrose announces new ESL/ELL endorsement for education majors and practicing teachers
ST. AMBROSE UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES NEW ESL/ELL ENDORSEMENT FOR EDUCATION MAJORS AND PRACTICING TEACHERS
The St. Ambrose University School of Education announced a new ESL (English as a Second Language)/ELL (English Language Learner) endorsement, the only one of its kind offered in Eastern Iowa. With significant local and regional need, ESL/ELL qualified teachers are in high demand. The endorsement is available for both current students and practicing teachers, and the program will offer its first class this August.
"The new St. Ambrose ESL/ELL teaching endorsement comes at a time when there are approximately 55 identified ESL students for every certified ELS teacher in Iowa, and with similar numbers in Illinois," said Assistant Professor of Education Richard Robertson. "With a strong teacher education program and an orientation to social justice, St. Ambrose is in a unique position to prepare students and current teachers for this important and growing field that offers great career opportunities."
The 24-credit program will be offered in a convenient, part-time night and online format, and is a K-12 endorsement. For more information, contact Robertson at 563/333-6332 or RobertsonRichard@sau.edu.
