Galesburg School District 205 will show off its construction work at an open house Friday at the Galesburg Junior Senior High School. The campus now houses students in grades 7-12.

GALESBURG — The public is invited to an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the remodeled Galesburg Junior Senior High School.

"The construction crews have been the central vision at the Galesburg Junior Senior High School Campus over the past couple of years," a release from the school district said. "Now it is time to seethe completed building for yourself.

As reported in February, the project, costing $43 million, includes a new band room, practice areas and 14 additional classrooms for the 10-12th grades. Steel prices and electricity issues added $380,000 to that total over the summer.

A new addition on the southwest corner of the Junior Senior High School includes a new band room for Galesburg High School students.

The new band room, erected on the south side of the high school and is visible to those driving past on Fremont Street, will be dedicated to the high school band and choir. This will allow more flexibility in scheduling, according to District 205 Superintendent John Asplund, as junior high students will continue to use the school’s current band room.

"We welcome you to Galesburg Junior Senior High School, to see the changes, updates, and more, that have been made for the 7-12th grade students and staff at Galesburg CUSD #205," the release said.
