Alexis Fire Equipment was the center of activity in the village on Saturday, March 13, as the company held its annual open house.

"We served about 1,800 pork chops," said Mike Shull, vice president of the company. "Things turned out fairly well. The weather could have been better, it could have been worse. That's how it is here."

The open house is an event the company holds annually. Vendors from as far away as the East Coast attended to show their wares and get feedback from customers.

Firefighters from Illinois, Michigan and Iowa were present at the event as well.

"We send out invitations with our mailing lists for the second Saturday in March," said Shull.

The business began in 1947 by Gene Morris and it is still a family business being run by his son Jeff.

According to the business' website the company employs about 75 people as engineers, craftsmen and mechanics.
