The village of Eliza is hosting a benefit for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14 at the Eliza Kountry Kafe. Vicki and Clark, restaurant owners, are donating 50 percent of that day's Kafe receipts to the fund-raiser in honor of Dan Sell, who recently lost his battle against cancer. Aug. 14 would have been Dan's 51st birthday.

Township meetings in August included the Board of Managers meeting on Aug. 2 and the regular meeting on Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Eliza Community Center.

The Eliza Lions Club meets at the Eliza Kountry Kafe Aug 11 for its 7 p.m. regular meeting and Aug. 25 for the dinner meeting. The Rudy Green memorial tractor ride will be discussed. It was another success with 53 tractors participating. During the fair the Lions Retinopathy bus examined 32 persons. The bus plans to return for next year's Mercer County Fair.

August 13-15 has two area events taking place. The Illinois City Days celebration will be held and the New Boston Fish Fry will be held. New Boston's festivities will be held in New Boston Fish Fry Park. There will be a carnival running from Friday through Sunday.

Parade sign-up is at the Methodist church and the parade starts at 10 a.m. There is a 2 p.m. rain delay set for this event, just in case. Both catfish and chicken dinners will be served from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Illinois City Days start Friday night with a street dance from 7 p.m. to midnight with music by Pulse Ox. Saturday's annual parade is at 10 a.m., followed by antique and mini-rod and kiddie tractor pulls, a talent show and a baby contest. All proceeds from the events, plus the sale of pork chops, hot dogs, nachos, baked beans, chips and drinks will go towards the Illinois City volunteer Fire Department. Hawaiian Luau is the parade theme this year. Contact Rikke Hetzler at (309) 781 7770 for parade entries.
