News from Seaton
Birthdays at the end of December include Ed Schrock on Dec. 30 and Lyle Hall on Dec. 31. Coming up next week, Ed Anderson will have a birthday on Jan. 18 and his nephew, Chris Weeks of rural Seaton will celebrate his 40th on Jan. 19.
At the caucus that was held on Jan. 10 in Seaton, three village board trustees and a village clerk candidate were chosen. Wm. "Topper" Brock, Bob Springer and Gary Melton will be on the ballot in April for village trustees and Lyle Hall will be for Village Clerk. Topper Brock and Bob Springer are serving on the village board now and Gary Melton has served on the village board in the past for many years, including the position of president.
Sympathy goes out to Sue Jones of rural Seaton and her son, Chris and Karen Jones and their son, Nick. Sue's daughter Liz lost her husband of 11 years when he passed away unexpectedly around the first of the month. Arthur Bernstein was just 40 years old and they lived in East Dundee. Services for Arthur were Jan. 5.
The Mercer County Junior High wrestling team went to Geneseo to a tournament on Saturday, Jan. 8. There were many area schools competing but the Golden Eagles placed third over all with 57 team points. Geneseo was first with Edison scoring second.
From Mercer County three wrestlers won the championship in their weight brackets, Tristen Finch, Matthew Weeks and Mason Weeks. Tristen received an award for the most pins. Chase Nelson and Trae Blaser both got third. Drake Stirn and Quentin Ball both got fourth and Curtis VanWinkle got fifth. Jarrett Russell, Mike Neeld and Jake Kisner all placed sixth to help the team to their third place finish.
On Monday, Jan. 10, the Junior High Golden Eagles wrestling team hosted a quadrangle at the Intermediate School in Aledo that included Knoxville, Lombard and Churchill from Galesburg. Over Knoxville, the Eagles won 60-30. Over Lombard, the Eagles were victorious 67-36 and over Churchill the Eagles won 58-48. Mercer County wrestlers with three wins for the night were, Trae Blaser, Drake Stirn, Tristen Finch, Curtis VanWinkle, Matthew Weeks, Mason Weeks and Carl Dennison. Their next wrestling meet will be in Plainfield, at the Timber Ridge Tournament on Jan. 21 and 22.
