Cole Dieckman Benefit Details -- We are all urged and welcome to take part in a day of love, support and caring on March 12 at the Mercer County VFW from 2 to 11 p.m. Cole Dieckman, three years old, was diagnosed in October of last year with Acute Lymphatic Leukemia and he and his family have undergone all of the medical challenges that come with that diagnosis to include a bone marrow transplant following chemo treatments.

Any donation of time, money, or raffle items will be greatly appreciated by his parents, Caleb and Dawn (Morrison) Dieckman and are being handled by volunteers Megan Bull (309-337- 6114), Pam Retherford (309-584-4591), Meredith Morrison (563) 260-1797, Becky Tippie (309) 221-9028. The agenda for this special day includes an auction, food, entertainment, 50/50 drawings and lots of very nice raffle items.

Eliza Township Clean-up is once again upon us in cooperation with Tri- County Solid Waste, Eliza Township will host a Spring Clean-up on Friday–March 25, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday, March 26, 8 to 11 a.m. The letter explaining the particulars of this year’s program will be sent to Eliza resident’s homes soon. Don’t miss this excellent chance to clean up or clear out that “stuff” you’ve looked at for weeks, months or years.  

The Township meeting this month will be held on Monday March 14, at 7 p.m. at the Eliza Community Center. The Board of Managers will met on March 1. Township meetings are open to the public.

The Community Club Auction is back on this April, with the date to still be determined.

The Eliza Kountry Kafe will be serving Corned Beef and Cabbage on the Wednesday March 17 for St. Patrick’s Day. And this year Vicki is including a “Lenten Special” on the Friday night buffet during lent. She also announced that the Eliza Kountry Kafe is now on Facebook for those who want to check out the daily specials ahead of lunchtime.

Don't forget that on Sunday, March 13 most of the United States will turn their clocks forward an hour as the nation switches to Daylight Saving Time (DST). The Fire Equipment Manufacturers' Association (FEMA, The Life Safety Group) reminds everyone that DST is a good time to review some cyclical safety chores, such as inspection of the fire extinguishers in your home and office, and a check of the batteries in your smoke detectors.

The Eliza Lions Club will meet at the Eliza Kountry Kafe on March

9 at 7 p.m. for the regular meeting and March 23 at 7 p.m. for

their dinner/meeting. Don’t forget that the Lions Club has great uses for old glasses or other vision assisting devices, hearing aids and supplies, and any diabetic instruments that you can pass along to the needy through them. See any Lion if you can help, OR come to one of the bi- monthly meetings to see for yourself how much good is being done by this fine organization.

Eliza Community Church is holding its Ash Wednesday Service for the parish in Eliza, beginning with a pancake supper at 6 p.m., followed by the worship service at 7 p.m. 

Tuesday, March 15 is the beginning of the lenten services sponsored by County Line Clergy Association. This week's service is at Buffalo Prairie Church at 7 p.m.

The parish is hosting a fun fund-raiser in the Mercer County Junior High School gym from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. to help raise awareness and funds to support the "Imagine No Malaria" campaign. Malaria kills millions of people every year, and just $10 will buy a specially-coated bed net that will cover four people, and protect them from the mosquitos that carry the disease. A world-wide effort underway to try and eradicate malaria and save countless lives. Please bring the whole family and join in on basketball games, and lots of fun, for the purpose of buying "Nothing but Nets"  and saving lives!

Tuesday, March 22, a Lenten Service at will be held in Edgington at 7 p.m. and Tuesday's March 29 Lenten Service is at Eliza at 7 p.m.
