Beulah Venable

    Friday, May 27 Mr. and Mrs. Don Hampton, Lauren Whitney and Beulah Venable attended visitation and Mr. and Mrs. John Kimball attended the funeral for their aunt, Mrs. Velma Whitney at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Muscatine, Iowa.

    On May 14, 2011 Erik Curry graduated from Northern Illinois University with a bachelor's degree in Biology Science. He received high honor 4.0. He did 2 years of research for the science department and received honors for his work. Erik plans to go to medical school and be a doctor in anesthesiology. His parents, David and Rosemary Curry are proud of Erik. His aunt, Alicia Moran and cousin, Lori Cherne and family drove down from Minneapolis, Minn. and joined Erik and family for dinner and enjoyed the rest of the weekend.

    Sasha and Danielle Gorbach, Milan, are parents of their first born child, Nicholas, born May 24 at Trinity East hospital. Grandparents are Rita and Comwell Bowen, Mrs. Monetta Martin and late Duane Martin are the great grandparents.

    Kurtiss Mueller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Brian Mueller was honored Sat., May 28 at a graduation party at his home.

    Sunday, May 29 was Rockridge High School graduation at 2 p.m. Daniel Wiegel and Addison Kistler were co-valedictorians and Daly Wilges was salutorian. There were 120 graduates.

    Rev. Mark Slaatte starting Wed. June 1 will be attending the Great Rivers Conference at the Peoria Civic Center. Gary Hund is our lay delegate.

    Monday, May 30, 11:00 a.m. was Memorial Day, observed by the Reynolds Post American Legion Post 1166. The program was conducted by the chaplain James Pettit. After the Presentation of Colors, National Anthem came Emma Hoke with the announcement of the Essay Winners:

7th & 8th Grade Winners

2nd Place - Lucie Dierikx, Rockridge Jr. High

1st Place - Julia Sandhaas Hoke, Sherrard Jr. High

11th & 12th Grade Winners:

3rd Place - Eric Millichamp, Sherrard Sr. High

2nd Place - Katie Perkins - Sherrard Sr. High

1st Place - Michael Holdsworth - Sherrard Sr. High

    Michael Holdsworth from Sherrard Sr. High has not only won the local level, but his essay has advanced to first place in the District and Division levels. We have yet to hear from the State Level.

    Amanda M. Johnson, daughter of Troy and Audra Welch is our delegate to attend Illini Girls State June 19-25 at Easter Illinois University, Charleston, Ill. Amanda is a junior at Sherrard Sr. High School.

    Martha Green recited "In Flanders Fields" and Response Chaplain Chuck Rizer was the Guest Speaker.

    Monday afternoon Rockridge Rockets played the Super Sectional at Augustana College's Swanson-Brunner Field against Prophetstown-Erie baseball team. We are proud of our team. 7 seniors played on this team.
