Dorothy S. Carlson

Dorothy S. Carlson, 93, of Galesburg formerly of Rio and New Windsor died Sunday August 7, 2011 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg,  Services are 1:00 p.m. Wednesday August 10, 2011 at the Alpha Baptist Church.

Burial is in the Alpha Cemetery.  Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Alpha where memorials may be left to the Alpha Baptist Church or Seminary Manor’s Garden Court.

She was born March 27, 1918 near  Osco to Ernest and Emma Fredell Steffen.  She graduated from Orion High School in 1936 and married David Owen Carlson October 4, 1942 in Andover.  He died May 12 1990.

Dorothy was a homemaker and was a member of the Alpha Baptist Church, Rio Women’s Club and a 60 year member of the Order of the Eastern  Star #313

She enjoyed sewing and weaving rugs.

Survivors include 4 daughters, Nancy Simkins of Galesburg, Marilyn (Van) Huffman of Pinedale, WY, Mary (Bob) Shull of Rio  Betty Golden of Pinedale WY, 1 son Paul (Sadie) Carlson of New Windsor, 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 sister Jeannette (Marvin) Medley of Woodhull,,  a sister-in-law Ruth Steffen of Cambridge and many nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband,  infant son Douglas Owen and 6 brothers preceded her in death
