Robert E. “Bob” Nelson, 93, of Taylor Ridge, passed away Saturday September 3, 2011 at Rosewood Care Center, Moline.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Taylor Ridge. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Taylor Ridge. Memorials may be made to ARC Opportunity Center or Zion Lutheran Cemetery Association.

Robert was born on May 31, 1918 in rural Mercer County, the son of John E. and Celia J. (Felton) Nelson. He married Arlene Schave on August 3, 1945 at Zion Lutheran Church, Taylor Ridge. She preceded him in death on July 25, 2006.

Mr. Nelson farmed most of his life in Rock Island and Mercer Counties. He had also been employed at Roth Pump Co., Milan as a machinist and parts inspector, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Taylor Ridge.

Robert loved cards, gardening, spending time with his family and his cats.

Mr. Nelson was a World War II Army veteran having served on the Queen Mary as an anti-aircraft gunner.

Survivors include his daughters and son in law, Barbara (Hallace) Chapman, Viola, Sharon Hart, Orion; sons and daughter in law, Dennis Nelson, Milan, Paul Nelson, Moline, David (Jeri) Nelson, Moline; grandchildren, Angi, Bonnie, Michelle, Stephanie, David, Brian, Jonathan; 8 great grandchildren; sisters in law, Marna Rettig and Jean Schave.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ralph and Leonard Nelson.
