Roy R. Barton
Roy R. Barton, 83, of Galesburg, formerly of Alpha died Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. Burial will be in the Alpha Cemetery where graveside Military Services will be conducted. Visitation is Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha where memorials may be left to Seminary Manor's Activity fund. He was born March 8, 1928 in Moline, a son of Clyde L. and Edith M. Wittenmeyer Barton. He graduated from Alpha High School in 1946 and was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War. He married Dorothy Ann Ray August 14, 1954. He later married Bertie Carlson February 14, 1975. She died in 1996.
Roy was employed with Deere and Company for 44 years retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Oxford American Legion Post #1197 and served on the Alpha Town Board for several years. He enjoyed traveling with his camper, gardening, playing cards, bowling and watching sports.
He is survived by two daughters: Connie Pople of Alpha and Marcia (Wayne) Williams of Brundidge, AL, three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, three brothers: Kenneth and Gene Barton of Alpha and Dave Barton of New Windsor and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son: Steve, two sisters and four brothers.
