Viola Mae Kofoid, 88, of Galesburg, formerly of Alpha died Friday Oct. 7, 2011 at Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg.  Services are 2:00 p.m. Thursday Oct. 13, 2011 at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Alpha.  Burial is in the Alpha Cemetery.  Visitation is one hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home where a memorial fund will be established.  Online condolences can be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com

She was born Nov. 16, 1922 in Chicago and graduated from Hopkins High School in Granville.  She married James S. Kofoid April 24, 1943.  He died in 1994.

Viola was a homemaker and was a secretary at the Ophiem Grain Elevator and Orion Soil Service for many years retiring in 1987.

She was a member of the Methodist Church , the United Methodist Women, USBC and was a 4-H Leader for many years.  Viola was an avid Bowler and gardener and she enjoyed crocheting and growing roses.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra (Thomas) Blad of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Laura (Greg) Wutzke of Westchester. Two sons, Dr. Kenneth (Rita) Kofoid of Bushland, Texas, Douglas (Viktoria) Kofoid of Woodhull, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Her parents and two sons, Cecil and Gerald preceded her in death.
