Betty J. Nelson, 86 of Galesburg, formerly of Woodhull died Sunday Oct. 9, 2011 at Cottage Hospital, Galesburg.  Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Thursday Oct. 13, 2011 at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull.  Burial is in the Woodhull cemetery.  Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 12, 2011 at the funeral home where a memorial fund will be established.  Online condolences can be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com

She was born Aug. 11, 1925 in New Windsor to Lynn and Josephine Epperson Barton.  She graduated from Alpha High School and married Robert E. Nelson Sept. 16, 1947 in Alpha.  He died in 1994.

Betty owned and operated the former Frontier Bowling Lanes in Woodhull and was employed as a Cook at the AlWood High School in Woodhull for many years.  She enjoyed needlework, reading and spending time with her family.  She was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull.

Survivors include her children, Becky (Greg) Anderson , Neal (Jeni) Nelson,  Barry (Kathy) Nelson all of Alpha, Terry (Jill) Nelson of Woodhull, seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren,  three sisters Mary (Van) Floyd of Swedona, Pat McCready of Aledo, Ruth Goben of Galesburg, one brother, Pete (Evelyn) Barton of Alpha, two sisters-in-law Bev Barton of Woodhull, Judy Barton of Minier and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband, one daughter, two sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.
