John V. "Jack"  Owens, Sr., 89, of Galesburg, formerly of Woodhull, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2011 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Galesburg.  Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2011 at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull.  Burial will be in the Woodhull Cemetery where graveside military services will be conducted.   Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home where memorials may be left to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.  Online condolences can be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com.

He was born March 30, 1922 in Ft. Worth, Texas, a son of Leonard and Clarissa Jlenes Owens.  He attended Galesburg and Andover Schools and married Doris L. Peterson Jan.19, 1947 in Woodhull.  She died Aug. 30, 1998.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the 2833rd Amphibious Engineers.

John was employed at Farmall, Burlington Northern Railroad, U.S. Post Office and retired in 1984 from Moor Mans Manufacturing in Alpha.  He was a member of the United Church of Woodhull and the Miles S. Sturgeon American Legion Post #546.

He is survived by two daughters: Karen (David) Brittingham of Galesburg, Jacky (Ronald) Lindstrom of Alpha, one son: John Jr. of Davenport IA, four grandchildren: Lance, Amanda, Chad and Staci, five great-grandchildren: Allison, Kyle, Ashley, Drake and Jade.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers: Louis and Leonard Owens Jr.
