Mercer County Republicans look to help 2012 primary candidates
About a month remains for qualified Republican candidates to declare an interest in running for Mercer County elected positions next year.
A number of positions are up for election in Mercer County during the March 20 primary, including all Mercer County Board positions (two seats for each of the five districts), state’s attorney, coroner and circuit clerk. Candidates who win the party primary advance to the general election in November 2012.
The Mercer County Republican Central Committee is working with candidates in an effort to assist those running for office in the upcoming primary election. Those running as Republicans in these races should contact the committee for assistance and up-to-date information on Republican activities in the county.
Candidate packets are available now and may be picked up at the Mercer County Clerk’s office in the courthouse in Aledo. In addition, precinct committee persons’ packets may be obtained at the county clerk’s office in order to run for elected precinct positions.
The candidate packets include nominating petition sheets that must be signed by a sufficient number of persons residing within the district for offices being sought. Candidates must turn in their filled-out, signed and notarized nomination papers at the courthouse during the time period from Nov. 28 to Dec. 5.
