Howard W. Johnson, age 92, of Alpha died Monday, Nov. 21, 2011 at Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline.  Services are 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011 at the Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha.  Burial is in the Andover Cemetery.  Visitation is noon until the time of service at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Meals on Wheels, Tri-County Ambulance Service or American Diabetes Association.  On-line condolences can be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com.

He was born Sept. 21, 1919 in Lynn Township to Wallace and Lillian Johnson Johnson.  He attended Pleasant Valley Grade School and Oxford Township High School.  He married Thelma Jean Dickinson Jan. 28, 1943 in Galesburg.  She died April 21, 2005.

Howard farmed and raised cattle in Lynn Township all of his life retiring in 1972.  He was Oxford Township Road Commissioner for 9 years.

He served on the Opheim School Board District 199 until it consolidated into AlWood School District where he served on the board for 6 years.

He was a member of the Henry County Farm Bureau and enjoyed golfing.

Howard is survived by one daughter: Gloria (Rod) Taylor of Alpha, one son: Ron (Cindy) Johnson of Sherrard, four grandchildren, Joe (Alivia) Taylor of Peoria, Jayson (Kerri) Johnson of Davenport, Iowa, DeeAnn Taylor of Germantown Hills and Jim (Jennifer)Taylor of Moline., four great grandchildren, Emma, Leah, Ava and Owen.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters and one brother.
