Steve and Kelly Ducey, both University of Iowa Alumni from the Quad Cities, have been bottling and selling their secret bloody mary recipe for two years now and have just signed their 33rd distributor partnership in November, selling their 100,000th bottle into their 19th US state.

The couple started bottling their secret recipe in Oct. 2009 and have since expanded into 33 markets across 19 states, winning 3 awards; two for mixing Irish Dog with beer at WQPT’s Brew Ha Ha and the third being the Innovation Award from the Quad City Chamber of Commerce. The couple has primarily used social media outlets like Facebook and LinkedIn to grow their business and was recently featured in a book on Amazon called 'Maximizing LinkedIn for Sales and Social Media Marketing'.

In addition to social media, they couple has formed key partnerships to help gain growth momentum within the last year. First, they started a Think Local, Drink Local initiative in early 2011 with Mississippi River Distilling Company in Le Claire, Iowa and Great River Brewery in Davenport, Iowa to urge consumers to think local when buying and consuming beverages. All three companies have teamed up on several regional tastings and events within Iowa and Illinois, have spoken at business meetings and have created great food and drink recipes by mixing all three company’s award-winning products together.

Irish Dog, which was named after the couple's two long-haired Chihuahuas, has also named the Brown Dog Foundation its charity of choice, which is a national non-profit started by Carol Smock, originally of Aledo, that helps pet owners in financial crisis to continue to care for their beloved pets who have life-threatening, but treatable conditions. A portion of every bottle of Irish Dog Bloody Mary Mix sold is donated to Brown Dog which has helped save hundreds of pets’ lives since founded in 2006.

Most recently in early Nov. 2011, Irish Dog formed a partnership with Midwest Beverages, LLC, a beverage consulting company with strategic experience in beverage distribution and management, retail buying and supplier/buyer/broker management, to help with expansion into several additional US states. Midwest Beverages brings over 30 years of experience in the food and beverage industry and has high beliefs in Irish Dog and plans to aide in launching them into becoming the next big bloody mary household name!
