Lyle W. Acker, 62, of Taylor Ridge, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011 at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 801 W. Edgington St., Reynolds.  Burial is at the Edgington Cemetery.  Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011 at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Lyle was born on June 14, 1949 in Milan, a son of Richard and Alice McDonald Acker.  He married Jeanette Storr on Dec. 29, 1970 in Edgington.

He was a skilled machinist and had worked for several companies.  Since 1975, he was a heavy equipment operator at Acker Bulldozing, Reynolds.

Lyle served in the Illinois National Guard from 1967 to 1973.  He had served as a volunteer with the Reynolds Volunteer Fire Department.  He was a man that loved the outdoors.  He was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, canoeing, farming and gardening.  Lyle also enjoyed mushroom hunting and building and flying radio controlled airplanes. He was an avid reader and was a person with a wealth of knowledge; you could always go to Lyle with a question and if he didn’t know the answer, he would find it.

Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Diane Rudsell, Buffalo Prairie, and Lisa and Jesse McGown, Illinois City; grandchildren, Grady, Wyatt and Adda Rudsell and Conrad and Vivian McGown; sisters and brothers, Glenna (Darryl) Kelly, Tucson, Az., Harvey (Mary) Acker, Reynolds, Marjorie (Bill) Wilkens, Taylor Ridge, Lois (Frank) Burr, Muscatine, Gary (Donna) Acker, Taylor Ridge, Nancy (Gary) Williams, Illinois City, and Dennis (Lisa) Acker, Reynolds.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley.
