George Leonard Pease, Jr., age 88, of Aledo, passed away on Feb. 29, 2012 at his residence in rural Mercer County. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, March 5, 2012 at the Norwood Presbyterian Church in Mercer County.  Interment will be Norwood Cemetery.  Friends may call on Sunday afternoon at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, where his family will be present from 3 -5 p.m. to receive friends.  A memorial fund has been established for the Norwood Presbyterian Church or to the Norwood Cemetery.  For more information please visit, www.turnbullfuneralhomes.com

Leonard was born on Feb. 16, 1924 in the Suez Township in Mercer County and is the son of George Leonard Sr. and Ada Emilia Meals Pease.  He graduated from Alexis High School in 1942.  Leonard married Marie D. Pheiffer on July 20, 1946, she survives.  

He worked most of his life as a farmer.  Leonard was the Trustee of the Suez Township for several years.   Leonard enjoyed playing softball on the Alexis softball team for many years.  He later coached softball for a time.  Leonard was a member of the Farm Bureau and Norwood Presbyterian Church.  He help erect the ballparks in both Alexis and Aledo.  Leonard was an avid Chicago Cubs and United Softball fan.  

Leonard is survived by his wife Marie D. Pease of Aledo, children:  Lynn Pease (Kris) of Alexis, Loren Pease (Jeanette) of Geneva, Mary Lou Pease of Aledo, and George M. Pease of Monmouth.  Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Brock, Lacey, Lori, Robbie, Tina, Tracee, and Emma Pease, twelve great grandchildren, and one sister Mary Baker of Monmouth.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
