Orion 4-year-old dies from heart complications

Rylan Foster, a four-year-old Orion boy who needed a heart transplant, died on Monday, July 30 at Children's Hospital of St. Louis. He is the son of Daniel and Sarah Foster of Orion. Rylan had been hospitalized since May 18, and had undergone several open-heart surgeries and procedures.

Rylan was a trooper, and had fought so hard to survive, according to his Aunt Lisa Wille. "He endured way more than any little four-year-old guy should have to go through, but was back on the transplant list as his family prayed and waited." Rylan didn't receive that new heart: he passed away peacefully Monday morning in the arms of his loving parents.

Rylan is the great-nephew of Mark and Lisa (Foster) Wille of Aledo. Other local survivors are grandparents Don Foster, formerly of Reynolds, and Joe and Donna (Marr) DeSchepper. Donna was formerly from Buffalo Prairie, as are Rylan's great- grandparents Melvin and Lynette Marr and great-uncle Jerry Marr. Wayne Foster of Reynolds is Rylan's great-grandfather. There are other Quad City area relatives, including grandparents Mike and Lisa DeLoose of Rock Island.

Local fund-raising events are in the planning stages to help with the family's daunting medical bills. "The hospital room alone was $5,000 a day," said Wille.
