The Mercer County Historical Society will host its fall open meeting at the recently renovated Pope's River Church. Pope's River Church was the first Presbyterian church in the county, and was the "mother church" for numerous others. The program on Monday, September 17, at 7:00 p.m. will tell about the history of the church and the recent renovation project. Speakers will include Dave Duncan, Douglas McCaw, and Ronn Dillavou. Refreshments will be served. The public is invited and encouraged to come see the church and hear the presentations.

The church, also known as Pope Creek Church, is located in section 7 of Ohio Grove Township. From Route 94 south of Aledo turn west (right) onto 40th Avenue (Sunbeam corner) and continue 1 3/4 miles. Then turn north (right) onto 160th Street and go 1/2 mile to the church and Candor Cemetery.
