The City of Galesburg Parks & Rec Division held their annual Youth Fishing Derby on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at Lincoln Park. The fishing derby this year will be held Saturday, May 20.

This weekend in Galesburg offers a wide variety of events, including live music, fishing and more.

Here are 10 things to do this weekend in the area.

Thursday Night Jazz

What: Come hear the Knox Cherry Street Combo. There will be a full bar and you can order food from any local restaurants (some within walking distance) and have "supper at the center." No outside drinks allowed.

Bumblebee Bay

What: Spring has sprung, and you can paint together while supporting St. Jude's.

Odd Couple (Female Version)

What: Neil Simon’s revision of his hugely successful play, "The Odd Couple," sees the lead characters transformed into Olive Madison and Florence Unger. Olive and their group of girlfriends are enjoying their weekly Trivial Pursuit night in Olive’s messy and ill-equipped apartment. As the game continues, Florence arrives, fresh from being dumped by her husband. Fearful that the neurotic Florence might attempt suicide, Olive invites her to move in as her roommate. However, Olive and Florence have very different personalities.

Play Without Boundaries

What: An exclusive time for special-needs families. Enjoy reduced number of visitors, space and freedom to explore at your own pace and the opportunity to connect with other families.

Annual Youth Fishing Derby

What: Opportunity for children to get exposed to outdoor skills and learn about the need for conservation. For ages 3 to 15. Mobile playground truck will be there from noon to 3 p.m. Hundreds of prizes will be given away to the first participants to catch a fish. Bring your own pole or borrow one (limited quantities) from the committee. Plenty of local fishers will be available to teach first-timers.

Knox Piano Chamber Ensemble Spring Concert

What: Join the Knox Piano Chamber Ensemble under the direction of Ashlee Mack for their Spring Concert featuring works by student composers Carlos Claudio, Casey Foubert, Jasper Morgan and Omar Qureshi.

Spring into the Wild

What: Join us as we learn about using herbs that are growing in our backyards. Learn about nettle, burdock, and dandelion and their medicinal benefits. Tina Hope will be showing us how to make herbal infusions, and there will be an opportunity to plant your own herbs.

2nd Annual Bloody Mary Brunch

What: Help kick off Period Poverty Awareness Week with fundraiser for the Loving Bottoms period supply program. There will be period talk, period event t-shirts and period kit packing.
