2010 Collins Poetry Residency – Accepting Applications until August 31

Robert Blackford/Editor

The Midwest Writing Center is offering a regional poetry residency during October 2010. Eligibility requires residency in one of the following counties: Illinois’ Henry, Mercer, or Rock Island counties, or Iowa’s Clinton, Muscatine, or Scott counties. Applications will be accepted from July 15 – August 31.

The chosen poet will work under the guidance of poet Dr. Robin Throne, avid supporter of community-based poetry and patron of the literary arts – her poetry has appeared in numerous publications, and in 2008, she co-produced Richard Collins’ posthumous poetry collection, Greater Joy, Shorter Sorrow, Thankful Prayer.

The resident poet will facilitate at least one public reading, workshop, online poetry forum, and launch a limited edition broadside publication.

Established in honor of Richard, Susan, and Ryan Collins and their contributions to and encouragement of poets and poetry in the Iowa/Illinois Quad Cities and the Upper Mississippi River Valley, the residency will focus on community-influenced poetry.
