Carson Hank of Aledo showed the grand champion shorthorn heifer at the Illinois State Fair junior show in Springfield recently. The two-day event took place Aug. 12 and 13.

On the second day of the fair Hank showed "Myrtle Bo" and it was named the champion.

Hank is the son of Jeff and Trisha Hank of Aledo.

Trisha Hank noted that this was the third time the family has been to Springfield to show cattle but the first time it has come away with an award like this.

The heifer was named the supreme champion at the Mercer County Fair in July and also won the junior show in Henry County as well as being named the reserve supreme champion at the Section FFA Fair.

Trisha Hank noted that they showed during some of the hottest days on record "We (three famiies) used 400 pounds of ice in one day to keep 10 head of cattle cool."
