Former state representative dies

Joel Brunsvold, 68, former director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and an Illinois State Representative from 1983 to 2003, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 7 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City after suffering a stroke.

He was from Milan and also served as the city's mayor from 1977-83.

A visitation is scheduled for 1-7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home in Rock Island.

The Funeral Service is 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Milan.

Interment will be at Preemption Cemetery in Preemption on Sept. 13.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.

Brunsvold was born Feb. 26, 1942 in Mason City, Iowa.  He graduated from Rock Island High School and earned a B.S. from Augustana College.

He and his wife Barbara have two children Tim and Ted.
