USDA releases September Grain Stocks report

The Illinois Field Office of NASS today released the USDA's September Grain Stocks Report. State and national highlights of the report include:

ILLINOIS

Corn stocks in all positions on Sept. 1, 2010 totaled 246.3 million bushels, down 18 percent from last year’s stocks of 298.9 million bushels. Off-farm stocks, at 206.3 million bushels, accounted for 84 percent of the total. The indicated disappearance from all positions for the June - August quarter was 519 million bushels, up slightly from the same time a year ago.

Stocks of soybeans on Sept. 1, 2010 totaled 20.7 million bushels, five percent less than last year’s level of 21.9 million bushels. This is the lowest recorded amount of soybeans in storage at this time of year since September 2004. Off-farm stocks, at 16.9 million bushels, accounted for 82 percent of the total. The indicated disappearance from all positions for the June - August quarter was 71.6 million bushels, up four percent from the same period last year.

Wheat stocks on Sept. 1, 2010 totaled 46.9 million bushels, 19 percent below September 2009. Off-farm stocks of 44.9 million bushels accounted for 96 percent of the total.

UNITED STATES

Old crop corn stocks in all positions on Sept. 1, 2010 totaled 1.71 billion bushels, up 2 percent from Sept. 1, 2009. Of the total stocks, 485 million bushels are stored on farms, down 20 percent from a year earlier. Off-farm stocks, at 1.22 billion bushels, are up 15 percent from a year ago. The June - August 2010 indicated disappearance is 2.60 billion bushels, compared with 2.59 billion bushels during the same period last year.

Old crop soybeans stored in all positions on Sept. 1, 2010 totaled 151 million bushels, up 9 percent from Sept. 1, 2009. Soybean stocks stored on farms totaled 35.4 million bushels, up one percent from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 116 million bushels, are up 12 percent from last September. Indicated disappearance for June - August 2010 totaled 420 million bushels, down eight percent from the same period a year earlier.

All wheat stored in all positions on Sept. 1, 2010 totaled 2.46 billion bushels, up 11 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks are estimated at 826 million bushels, down one percent from last September. Off-farm stocks, at 1.63 billion bushels, are up 19 percent from a year ago. The June - August 2010 indicated disappearance is 740 million bushels, up 12 percent from the same period a year earlier.
