Holiday Open House December 4 and 5 at Carl Sandburg Site
Visitors are invited to get in the spirit of the season during a Holiday Open House scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 4 and 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Carl Sandburg State Historic Site, 313 E. Third Street in Galesburg. The event is free and open to the public.
A program by Stan Shover, “Stories and Lessons about Carl Sandburg,” will be presented from 1-4 p.m. both days in the Barn at the site. The program will last about ten minutes and be repeated throughout the afternoon. School children and families are invited. Shover has been teaching in numerous schools throughout Knox County since 1946. He has taught thousands of students. He now serves as a substitute teacher in Avon and Galesburg. He has spent more than 300 days teaching since he retired, and is an enthusiastic educator and proponent of Carl Sandburg.
Door prizes will be awarded at 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 p.m. in conjunction with the program in the Barn – you must be present to win.
Tours of the site will be offered during the Open House, refreshments will be served, and the site’s Book Store will have a variety of Sandburg gift items for sale. Since the site is now closed for the season, the December 4 and 5 Open House will be the only chance to purchase Sandburg items at the Book Store.
