In 1996 she was appointed county assessment officer in Henry County, a position she holds today. She oversees four employees in the assessment office and three in the GIS department.
Other professional accomplishments include:
- Certified Illinois Assessing Officer (CIAO) designation, awarded in 1991.
- Over 600 hours of continuing education in the assessment field since 1991.
- Held numerous leadership positions within the Illinois County Assessment Officer’s Association (CAOA) including chairman of Area 1, and president of the association in 2008-2009.
- Member and current chairman of the Illinois Property Assessment Institute Board of Directors, a state-wide organization whose mission is to provide educational courses on property appraisal and assessment administration to township and county assessment professionals in Illinois.
Robert Kahman, 2010-2011 president of the CAOA, nominated Kernan for the award. “For the last eight years I have followed Lindi up the ranks of the CAOA. I watched her grow in knowledge and confidence each year. Her two years as CAOA President were exceptional. I have not come close to running the organization with equal drive and enthusiasm,” Kahman said.
