Twenty-two Scots named academic all conference

MONMOUTH – Twenty-two student-athletes at Monmouth College were recently named to the Midwest Conference All-Academic team for the fall semester. The MWC recognizes eight fall sports.

In order to be named to the MWC’s All-Academic team, a student-athlete must have completed at least one year at the institution, carry a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and earn a varsity letter in that sport.

The following student-athletes are Monmouth’s 2010-11 fall sports representatives and their majors:

Football (6) – seniors Nick Goett of Metamora (business), Matt Morman of Manlius (computer science), and Marcus Ruff of Avon (biology); and juniors Adam Hoste of Colona (business and economics), Kevin Turner of Geneseo (education) and Erik Weber of Mendota (business and accounting).

Volleyball (6) – senior Alyson Schroeter of Woodruff, Wis. (biochemistry and physics);  juniors Megan Creen of Rapids City (business and physical education) and Kendra Newlon of Hampton (education); and sophomores Jessica Jones of Mapleton (psychology), Elyse Slezak of Palatine (French and Spanish) and Chelsey Widdop of Reynolds (accounting).

Men’s and Women’s Cross Country (6) – senior Geoff Bird of Kenilworth (history); junior Jonathan Welty of Dixon (business and public relations); and sophomores Jake Barr of Mendota (computer science), Tori Beaty of Lake in the Hills (physical education), Kyle Earman of Olympia Fields (biology), and Dan Reid of Carlinville (music).

Women’s Soccer (3) – senior Natalie Rotz of Silvis (accounting and business); and juniors Molly Ball of Charleston (physics) and Danica Rogers of Rochelle (art and environmental science).

Women’s Golf (1) – senior Kayla Winbigler of Roseville (accounting and business).

Football’s Nick Goett and Marcus Ruff were named Academic All-Conference a maximum three times for the fall semester.
