Monmouth scored 21 points off turnovers and that proved to be the difference in a 73-61 win over Cornell in the third place game of the UW-Eau Claire Holiday Classic.

The Fighting Scots took the lead at the 12:02 mark of the first half on David Johnson’s three-pointer and never trailed after that. The Scots surged ahead with a 12-2 run after Johnson’s trey and led 33-21 at the half. Cornell trimmed their deficit to five, 42-37, in the first six minutes of the second half, but the Scots then scored 12 unanswered points. Cory Bishop’s trey at the end of the run put Monmouth ahead by 17 with eight minutes to go.

The Rams put together another threat in the final minutes before Monmouth was able to put the game away. David Altman paced the Scots with 22 points while Johnson added 20 and Kyle Mengarelli chipped in with 15.
