Carl Sandburg College is seeking entries for the 2011 Paul Simon Student Essay Contest. The contest provides a $500 scholarship to a current student who best describes “How My Community College Has Changed My Life.” The essay contest is put on by the Illinois Community College Trustees Association.

Essays must be no longer than 500 words and address the theme “How My Community College Has Changed My Life.” This may be used as the title or students can create their own title relating to the theme. Entries will be judged on the basis of writing style, clarity of expression, and relevancy to the topic, with special emphasis placed on correct grammar and punctuation.

The winner will receive a $500 cash stipend for education expenses during the fall 2011 semester, and be invited to attend the ICCTA’s awards banquet on June 3 in Chicago.

Deadline for submission is Wednesday, March 16. For questions or to submit an entry, contact Carol Petersen at (309) 341-5416 or cpetersen@sandburg.edu.
