State Rep. Pat Verschoore (D- Milan) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Pat Quinn’s budget proposal presented before the Illinois General Assembly on Wednesday:

“As we continue to evaluate the budget proposed by Governor Quinn, I want to urge my colleagues and residents of the state to look for additional cuts and other cost saving measures that we can implement. We need to focus on making cuts to ensure that our state does not end up deeper in debt, leaving our grandchildren to pay the bills.

I will continue working to find ways to streamline the state budget and cut spending so we can attain financial stability. Many taxpayers have been forced to tighten their belts, and so should the state. This is not the time for new spending. We need to continue to prioritize policies that promote business growth and development, as well as the employment of our state workforce, while we continue to remove any the waste and excess from the budget.

We have to start living within our means as a state. To help find solutions, I am actively encouraging my constituents to submit any and all legitimate suggestions they have to cut state spending. With everyone working together, I am hopeful that we can find solutions to move the state forward.”
