Senator Mike Jacobs (D-Moline) was proud to announce today the Sale of Thomson Prison to the Federal Government.
"Thomson Prison has sat empty since it was built in 2001. Its sale means an influx of thousands of jobs in the 36th District," stated Senator Jacobs. "In addition, this deal will provide Illinois with an additional $165 million that will help us to balance our state budget."
This sale will also provide a boost to our local economy. The refurbishment of the prison will require local laborer and products as well as housing, and everything else that comes with a population influx. In addition, there will be nearly 2000 long term jobs once the prison is open and housing federal prisoners.
