At Fuzz Berges Field in Carthage, homecoming was not a pleasant one for CSE coach Bill Reed or assistant coach Joe Reed as the Chargers rolled to the West Prairie Trail Southwest Division victory.

CSE (2-1, 1-1) had three first-quarter turnovers that resulted in three Illini West scores. The Chargers built a 28-0 lead in the game’s opening 10 minutes.

Illini West QB Michael Lafferty completed all three of his pass attempts in the first half for 96 yards and two touchdowns.

Illini West, the No. 5 ranked team in 3A led 41-0 at halftime.

The game was eventually called due to lightning with 2:23 left.

Illini West will host Aledo-Westmer Friday at 7 p.m.
