Titans beat Sherrard in make-up game

MONMOUTH - The Monmouth-Roseville Titans built a lead through three quarters before fighting off a late Sherrard challenge in posting their 10th victory.

The game was originally scheduled Dec. 18 but postponed by bad weather.

On Saturday, M-R (10-8, 3-2) edged out to a 16-10 lead after eight minutes before upping the advantage to 36-27 at halftime. The margin would be 53-40 following three quarters. Sherrard attempted to rally, scoring 24 points in the final eight minutes.

The Titans had just two field goals in the final quarter, but used 9-of-15 free throw shooting to hang on for the victory.

Ali Burgland led M-R with 21 points that included three three-pointers. Rebecca Gillen added 17 points that included 9-of-14 from the free throw line for the victors.

Kelly Hornick and Lacey Hainline paced Sherrard with 18 and 17 points respectively.

The Titans finished 21-of-35 from the free throw line, compared to 22-of-32 for Sherrard.
