Galva beats Westmer
Up by just one at halftime, Galva outscored visiting Westmer by eight points in the second half to walk away with the Cat’s first win of the season, 55-46, in Galva on Jan. 9.
The Cats, who had opened the season with 10 losses, pulled away from the Warriors in the fourth quarter, outscoring them 16-10 and holding on for the Cats’ first victory.
Galva’s slim halftime margin, 22-21, came after Westmer outscored Galva 13-10 in the second quarter, on the heels of the Cats’ 12-8 margin following the first period.
A pair of underclassmen - sophomore Jake McClintic and freshman Kile Mott - led Galva in scoring with 17 and 14 points, respectively. Senior Zach Anderson added 12 points.
Bieri was the lone Westmer player in double figures with 10.
The Cats’ winning streak was stopped at one on Jan. 13, when host United stormed passed the Cats with a 20-9 run in the fourth quarter to win 66-56.
Senior Spencer Clark led the Wildcat effort with 16 points. Jake Verstraete added 14 points for the Cats, now 1-11.
