Mercer staying in Lincoln Trail
Mercer County School District #404 board members agreed to stay in the Lincoln Trail Conference at the district's Feb. 18 board meeting.
Aledo Superintendent of Schools Alan Boucher presented two letters to the board -- one sent from the principal of Illini West High School and a second from representatives the Olympic Conference -- asking District 404 to join their respective conferences.
Boucher and Aledo Athletic Director Brian Dennison both recommended District 404 remain in the Lincoln Trail Conference.
Boucher noted that Pittsfield will be a member of a new conference forming along with Illini West, Camp Point, West Hancock and others. "I just see travel, travel, travel as a problem there," said Boucher.
The board agreed to send its regrets to both representatives and invite members of the Olympic Conference to join the Lincoln Trail.
Dennison said the Mercer County football schedule would feature some new members and some old friends.
Starting in 2010 AlWood and Cambridge will co-op to become Ridgewood. There will be a ROWVA/Galva/Williamsfield co-op. River Valley (Varna, Midland) Annawan/Wethersfield co-op, West Central and United West Prairie will all be on the conference schedule.
Dennison said he has been impressed with the Lincoln Trail Conference the past few weeks as it solidified its standing while other conferences around it were in a state of flux.
