Monmouth College track team moves up in national rankings
The Monmouth College men’s track team is one of the nation’s best according to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Ranked 19th a week ago by the national association, the Fighting Scots moved up to No. 18 this week after a strong showing at last week’s 12-team Rose-Hulman Engineer Invitational. Monmouth is just 10 rankings points out of a top 15 spot.
The Fighting Scots will go head-to-head Saturday with two teams above them in the standings. They’ll be able to size up top-ranked North Central and No. 15 Washington University at the Illinois Wesleyan University Keck Invitational. IWU is ranked just behind the Scots at No. 19.
The rankings, released each Wednesday by the USTFCCCA, use a formula to determine how the teams would fare in a national title race. The formula is similar to that used to rank Division I teams.
