Iowa-Iowa State Rivalry Fuels Up at Iowa Speedway

IZOD Indycar drivers Ryan Hunter-Reay and JR Hildebrand are taking sides in the Iowa-Iowa State rivalry, as representatives from each school’s athletic departments battle it out in a series of friendly competitions at Iowa Speedway on Wednesday, May 11.

Hunter-Reay will team up with University of Iowa Athletic Director Gary Barta and former University of Iowa and NBA basketball player Ryan Bowen, to take-on Hildebrand, Iowa State University Athletic Director Jamie Pollard and Iowa State University Head Football Coach Paul Rhoads.

Hunter-Reay and Hildebrand will be in Newton to promote the Iowa Corn Indy 250 IZOD Indycar Series Race scheduled on Saturday, June 25 at Iowa Speedway. The public is invited to attend this free event to help judge the competitions, and fans are encouraged to wear their school’s colors or favorite Iowa Speedway apparel.

WHERE: Iowa Speedway, located at I-80 Exit 168 in Newton, Iowa

WHEN: Wednesday, May 11

TIME: 2 – 3:30 p.m.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: There will be an award ceremony and trophy presentation following the Iowa Corn Indy 250 Iowa-Iowa State Showdown. Media will have the opportunity to speak with Hunter-Reay, Hildebrand and representatives from both schools during the press conference in Pizza Ranch Victory Lane. In case of rain, all activities will be held in the garages.
