Corlett moves to semi-finals
Ben Corlett moved to the semi-finals of the IHSA Class 1A State wrestling tournament Friday morning.
Results of other action Friday in the quarter finals and first round wrestlebacks include the following:
At 106 pounds Drake Stirn of Mercer County was pinned in 39 seconds by Nick Tanersley of Monticello. Stirn won his first round wrestleback defeating Drew Sonnefeldt of Lisle 11-6.
At 120 pounds Preston Adams of Mercer County lost his quarterfinal match against Jarrid Braunagel of Belleville (Althoff Catholic) by technical fall at 2:51, 16-1. Adams lost his first round wrestleback match to Cameron Schwig of Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 9-3.
At 126 pounds Chance Teel of Sherrard won his first round wrestleback match against Darren Stephens of Quincy Notre Dame by major decision 16-7.
At 138 pounds Jacob DeVolder of Orion beat Tyler Gergstralh of Prairie Central by tech fall at 4:06 , 17-2.
At 152 pounds Curtis VanWinkle of Mercer County dropped a 6-3 decision by Dylan Knisley of Monticello in the quarterfinals. VanWinkle then defeated Austin Renshaw of Herscher 8-3 in the first round wrestleback.
At 182 pounds Matthew Weeks of Mercer County dropped a 9-3 decision against Brendan Menacher of Monticello in the quarterfinals. Weeks beat Andrew Velasquez of Chicago (Agricultural Science 5-1 in the first round wrestleback.
At 285 pounds Ben Corlett of Sherrard pined Brett Bennett of Prairie Central in 3:34 in the quarterfinals. Quinton Ball of Mercer County was pinned in overtime by Junior Nunez of Plano at 6:39 in the quarterfinals. Brenden Jostes of Farmington pinned Quinton Ball at 1:34 in the first round wrestleback.
