Local wrestlers successful on Thursday

Local wrestlers had much success at the Class 1A Wrestling tournament Thursday in the preliminaries. Each of the five Mercer County wrestlers Drake Stirn, Preston Adams, Curtis VanWinkle, Matthew Weeks and Quinton Ball won their matches.

At 106 pounds Drake Stirn of Mercer County beat Hunter Lowry of Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 5-4.

At 120 pounds Preston Adams of Mercer County pinned Tyler Whitten of Plano in 2:47. Zach Lorek of Kankakee (McNamara defeated Jacob Hast of Sherrard by major decision at 8-0.

Agt 126 pounds Corey Jurzak of Coal City beat Chance Teel of Sherrard, 7-3.

At 132 pounds Mike Dierikx of Orion lost a major decision to Peyton Smith of Benton.

At 138 pounds Jacob DeVolder of Orion pinned Amer Shalabi of Chicago (Agricultural Science) in 2:43.

At 152 pounds Curtis VanWinkle of Mercer County won a 4-3 decision over Stephon Gray of Chicago (Corliss).

At 182 pounds Matthew Weeks of Mercer County won a 6-3 decision ver Whalen Rockwell of Bismark-Henning.

At 285 pounds Quinton Ball of Mercer County pinned Will Monroe of Sparta at 2:49. Ben Corlett of Sherrard pinned Trevor Richards of Lawrenceville in 3:04.
