A win is a win and the Golden Eagles are 2-1 but it wasn't pretty. The Golden Eagles hung on for an 8-6 victory over Princeville. The Princes fell to 2-1 with the loss.

"They are a very good ball club," said Mercer County Head coach Nat Zunkel. "They (Princeville) are no longer a lower tier team team in the conference. We knew that going in."

The Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard midway through the second quarter. On third-down-and-15 Mercer County quarterback Spencer Wood completed a 41 yard pass to Blake Russell down to the Princeville three yard line. Two plays later Curtis VanWinkle scored Mercer County's only touchdown at the 4:21 mark. Wood gave the Golden Eagles an 8-0 lead with scoring on the two-point conversion.

The Golden Eagles led 8-0 at the half.

Princeville got on the board in the third quarter on a four yard run by Logan Green which cut the Golden Eagle lead to 8-6. The two-point conversion attempt failed which turned out to be the difference in the game.
