Golden Eagles fall to ROWVA, 61-45

The Mercer County Golden Eagles boys basketball team fell to ROWVA Feb. 17 in Onieda.

The Golden Eagles dug themselves a hole early in the contest and were never able to recover. ROWVA's Kyle Woodside scored seven points in the first quarter to lead the Tigers to a 15-7 advantage after one period. Spencer Wood helped the Golden Eagles keep pace with for points in the period. ROWVA held back Mercer County in the second period as well and led 27-15 at the half. Kyle Woodside scored five of ROWVA's 12 second quarter points and led all scorers with 12 points by halftime.

The Golden Eagles held their own in the third period but were still outscored 12-11 and entered the final period trailing by 13 points 39-26. While Kyle Woodside was held scoreless in the third period Ricky McCreary hit a pair of three pointers for the Tigers and Bret Woodside chipped in with six points of his own.

The fourth period was a scoring frenzy 41 points being scored by both teams combined. Wood scored 10 of his game-high 19 points in the final period for Mercer County but it wasn't enough.

Scoring for Mercer County were: Wood, 19; Ben Nichols, seven; Conner Sharp and Brenton Stropes, six; Ty Taylor, five and Jacob Dellitt, two.
