The Rockridge Rockets defeated Winnebago 46-34 Friday night in the championship game of the Farmington Sectional.

While there was no doubt by the end of the game who the winner would be there was plenty of doubt at the beginning of the contest.

The Indians got off to a strong start with their 6-7 inside man Brandon Suggs scoring early. Winnebago built a 9-0 lead during a low scoring first quarter.

Rockridge didn't score until there were 35 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The Rockets trailed 9-4 at the end of the first quarter.

Bryan Heath hit the first shot of the second quarter and it was a thee point game 9-6.

Neither team could mount and offense in the second quarter and Winnebago led 15-8 at the half.

"I knew our shots would start falling eventually," said head coach Toby Whiteman.

The Rockets flipped a switch in the third quarter and went on a 10-0 run to start the period taking a 18-15 lead. Bryan Heath did the work inside with two baskets and outside with a three pointer during the run. T.J. Martens added a three pointer as well.

Whiteman added, "I thought we came out with more confidence in the second half. I knew we would keep fighting through."

The Rockets continued their run leading by as many as seven points during the period. Rockridge led 28-23 at the end of the third period.

Heath took over in the fourth period hitting eight free throws in the period and putting Winnebago away.

"This team has been through a lot. I can say enough about them. I think they are unshakable. They handle adversity better than a lot of adults," said Whiteman.

Whiteman added "I'm not big on records. I'm big on the moment. I want them to keep reaching. That's what's the matter to me."
